My Turn: Teens and Guns

We are always shocked and saddened when a young person loses their life in an accident, but we are angered when a fifteen year old girl is shot for no apparent reason.

I can remember when I was in school and you had a fight a fat lip, black eye or maybe even a stitch or two would be about all the damage done. Today teenagers just pull out a gun and start firing.

In a typical year, more children and teens die from gunfire than from cancer, pneumonia, influenza, asthma, and HIV/AIDS combined.

We shouldn't be surprised when we report shooting after shooting when gun violence is a way of life for teenagers.
