Secretary of State rolls out Voter ID card equipment

BRANDON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann was in Brandon Thursday morning for the installation of one of the first Voter ID Card stations in the State. If you don't have a form of picture ID you can get one free as part of the new Voter ID law.

Hosemann says Rankin, Madison, Lauderdale and Simpson counties are getting their machines this week. The rest of the state will get them next week.

Only voters who do not have an acceptable from of photo ID are eligible for a free Mississippi Voter ID card

If a voter doesn't have an documentation proving their identity, circuit clerks may verify their birth record free of charge. If a voter needs transportation to the circuit clerk's office, the Secretary of State's office will take care of it, also free of charge.

Voter ID will be in effect in Mississippi beginning with the June 3, 2014 Primary Election. Any one voting at the Polls June 3 or by absentee ballot in person at the Circuit Clerk's Office prior to June 3 will be required to show an acceptable form of photo ID.
