My Turn: Education Fix

Governor Phil Bryant issued an executive order stating that the responsibility to educate Mississippi's children belongs to the state not the federal government.  From my point of view neither has done a very good job.

Mississippi has some of the lowest test scores and graduation rates in the country.  I don't have any more confidence in the State running our schools than I do the Federal Government.

Common Core was adopted by Mississippi in 2010 along with 39 other states and was meant to set a standard in English and Math. Common Core has been a political football with it being praised by some and condemned by others.

If you can't agree on a minimum standard for English and Math, what chance is there to solve the education problem?  The fact is education is critically important to our state, but every time I hear that government is going to fix it I just cringe.
