Jackson Police Officers Promoted

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Almost 50 officers with the Jackson Police Department received early Christmas presents Friday. As family and friends looked on Friday morning, the men and women in blue were promoted to Sergeants and Lieutenants.

The promotional exercise was held at the William Skinner Training Academy on Saint Charles Street. Chief Lindsey Horton says the promotions are much deserved and collectively the officers have 761 years of law enforcement experience.

"This is an exciting time in the City of Jackson and particularly for the Jackson Police Department.   We have 24 individuals who have been promoted to Sergeant, we have 25 who have been promoted to Lieutenant and we're excited and moving Jackson forward and doing what we need to do to fight crime here in the city and the metro area", Chief Horton said.

"Right off the bat you have to have the heart to do it, you have to have the passion to do what I do.   And that's what makes us unique is the heart, the passion.   You really have to love being a police officer, you have to love what you're doing", Farlisah Robinson who was promoted,  told us.

Jackson Mayor Chokwe Lumumba says it has been quite a while since the department has had a Lieutenant's exam and promoted officers. He says the promotions demonstrate initiative, show leadership and the commitment of the department to keep the community safe.
