Morning fire damages apartment

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

The Jackson Fire Department has confirmed a structure fire broke out at a vacant apartment building early Sunday morning.

Jackson Fire Chief Investigator, Greg Travis said officials received the call around 3 a.m. Sunday about a fire at 2227 Robinson Road.  

Travis said when fire crews arrived on the scene, they could see smoke and flames coming from the structure.

"The fire was intense," said Travis. Fire crews were able to get the blaze under control. 

Travis said the unnamed complex, was unoccupied and no fire fighters were harmed during the blaze.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
