Hip Hop artists make Christmas brighter for needy families

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Local hip hop artists host a basketball game toy drive for families in need this holiday season.

Sunday nigh Jackson recording artists took to the hardwoods to raise money and collect toys for children.

A benefit game was played at the Westside Community Center on Wiggins Road.

They gathered bags of toys with everything from remote control cars to dolls.

The teams were the north side versus the west side with proceeds going to needy families.

The group of young hip hop artists reached out to the American Red Cross for the names of families who may not have a bright Christmas.

"They got back with us with a few families, one that lost a lot of items in a house fire back around Thanksgiving. We're just trying to use our name and you know draw a crowd and make somebody else's Christmas a better Christmas," said toy drive organizer Jonathan "Lil Mal" Minor.

They plan to deliver the toys and donations on Christmas Day.
