Deputies: Girlfriend steals money, replaces it with counterfeit cash
SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -
Spartanburg County deputies said a woman swiped $1,300 from her boyfriend, replacing it with some counterfeit money instead.
Deputies said they were called to a home on Old Mill Road after the victim said he found someone had stolen his money from his safe on Sunday.
According to the deputy's report, the victim was the only one who had the combination to his safe, but he realized the storage area where it is kept was damaged. When he looked inside, he said he found seven counterfeit $100 bills instead of his money, deputies said.
When the man confronted his girlfriend about the theft, she said she was angry about an argument they had a month ago and stole the money weeks prior, according to the report.
Deputies said they issued a warrant for the woman but jail records show she has yet to be arrested.
