Last minute shoppers rush to find that perfect gift

PEARL, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Christmas Eve the malls and shopping centers were packed with shoppers trying to find the perfect gift.

A number of them could be found at the Outlets of Mississippi in Pearl.

The registers were ringing well past closing time at six o'clock.

The parking lot was still filled with vehicles.

It was a rush across the metro area with last minute shoppers hitting the stores looking for deals.

From stocking stuffers to those big box items you saw people carrying bags filled with goodies to fit under the tree.

For some Christmas Eve shopping is a tradition.

For others it's the need to get a gift for someone who may have been left off the list.

"My brother just made it here from Las Vegas last night, and we just decided to come out to the mall this is something new that pearl has built since he's been gone away and we decided to come out and check out the stores," said Shelia Cooper of Pearl.

"It would have been hard to bring all the gifts on the plane so I just got in late last night so this was the first opportunity I've had to shop. It's really exciting to see the new mall," said Cooper's brother Traford Jenkins of Las Vegas.

"Usually we don't do it every year, but you know they always have better sales and stuff before Christmas than the ones after Christmas. It's just easier to come at the last minute," said Victoria Ekes of Laurel.

"The holiday season has been awesome. We haven't slowed down since Thanksgiving. Today's been a little quieter than yesterday and the weekend have been I think people are staying home with their families today. We were crazy mobbed yesterday. It was like Black Friday, so I think our last minute shoppers came two days before Christmas," said Outlets of MS General Manager Kathy Hackshaw.

The Outlets reopen Thursday at 9 a.m.
