HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

For many people, New Year's Day is a day-off from work, but for others, it's just another day on the job. While some Pine Belt businesses shut their doors for the holiday, many others stayed open, to welcome visitors passing through or regular customers.

And that meant many employees had to spend the day laboring, rather than watching parades and football games on TV, or spending time with family and friends.

"Well, you know, you've got to work any other day of the week, so it's just another day, but I like it," said Joshua Arnold, who works at one of the kiosks at the Turtle Creek Mall.

"I'm tired, but it's fun," said Ashley Standley, an employee at Rose's BBQ. "Because it's really slow, because everyone's sleeping in from the fun they had last night," she said.

And one employee told us he had no problem working on what he called national hangover day.
