Being a pro baseball player means never really being far from the game. So for a couple of local pro's back in town during the off-season, helping out with a kids camp was an easy thing for them to do.
Hunter Renfroe (1st Rd. pick of Padres in 2013) and Zach Bird (9th Rd. pick of Dodgers in 2012) spent their mornings this week teaching baseball to a group of young players at Performance Sports in Ridgeland.
Renfroe, who played at Mississippi St., says it's different seeing kids look up to him but he's trying to be the best role model possible. While Bird, a Murrah grad, says he's even learned from the youngsters he's been trying to teach this week.
The camp was held Monday, Tuesday and wrapped up Thursday morning.
