"If this is the big one for the season, we 're ready for it," said public works director Dwan Gilliom.

With the weather forecast calling for up to two to three inches of snow in parts of the area Sunday, the City of Memphis says it is prepared.

"We have our trucks loaded our crews scheduled to come in starting 10 o'clock Sunday morning," said Gilliom. "We have three shifts actually scheduled."

Public works crews will rotate shifts throughout the city until they feel road hazards related to weather conditions are over.

'We have plenty of sand and salt on hand as of [Friday] we have around 900 tons of salt, around 7,000 tons of sand," said Gilliom.

The crews will start driving operations as soon as any type of accumulation forms on roadway Sunday morning and afternoon. The city is also making special provisions for the homeless with its cold weather policy.

They will attempt to locate and provide shelter to the homeless as well as provide coats, blankets, and anything else they will need.

"We're concerned about that population, which is why the plan is being implemented. We don't want any of our citizens to freeze as a result of the cold weather," said Gilliom.
