Entergy Mississippi to increase rates for 2014 - MSNewsNow.com - Jackson, MS

Hey Entergy Customers! Your bill is about to go up...

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Entergy Mississippi customers are about to get a not-so-pleasant surprise on their bills.

They will soon see a rate increase of about 4 percent in early 2014.

The company blames rising natural gas costs and an under-recovery of fuel costs in 2013.

With the increase, the typical residential customer using 1,000 kWh will pay $108.08 beginning in February.

That's about $4.21 more than the typical customer paid for the same amount of electricity in 2013.

Natural gas costs rose about 12.5 percent in 2013 and rose some 33 percent in 2012.

Additionally, in 2013 Entergy Mississippi recovered from its customers approximately $36 million less than the company spent on fuel and purchased energy used to serve customer needs.  That shortfall is driving most of the current increase.
