Euthanasia rates declining at Daviess Co. Animal Shelter

Posted: Updated:

The kill rate continues to decline at the Daviess County Animal Shelter.

Officials say the shelter had to euthanize 19 percent of the animals brought in last year.

Seven years ago, that figure was as high as 90 percent.

The shelter credits the community support and dedicated volunteers.

"We have other volunteers that do adoption events.  We have one coming up this Saturday.  Just being able to get the animals out there and letting them know what we have, and the variety we have here to offer at the shelter," said Danielle Hutchinson, Daviess County Animal Control.

The shelter says social media has also played a large role in increasing the number of adoptions and rescues.
