JULIA'S FORECAST: Snow & ice to continue impacting Mississippi today

Folks in central and south Mississippi are in for a round of winter weather today! Our biggest concern is for sleet and snow, beginning in the morning and exiting tonight. The immediate Jackson Metropolitan area (Hinds, Rankin, and Madison Counties included) has the potential to see up to an inch of snow and ice accumulation by the end of the day. Areas farther south have the potential to see 1-3" of accumulation.

As for timing, the toughest travel will likely occur during the morning commute. Showers will continue through the midday, and by afternoon we should start to see some clearing in the Jackson metro region. That said, the temperatures today will be hard pressed to rise above freezing. Anything that falls will stick, meaning that untreated roads will be very slick at any point today and through tonight.

Biting cold takes hold tonight as temperatures fall into the teens. While all should be clear by Wednesday morning, our thermometer won't rise much. Expect the midpoint of the week to remain in the 30s.
