JSU welcomes new Tiger Tech store

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Jackson State University held the grand opening of its new Apple store on Friday morning.

Tiger Tech @ JSU is the only one of its kind in Mississippi, and one of only a few in the region. According to the university, the store will offer discounts to students, faculty and staff on Apple computers and products, such as iPads, iMacs, iPods and MacBook Pros, as well as many Apple accessories.

JSU has also been designated as an Apple Distinguished School by Apple, Inc.

The designation is reserved for institutions that meet criteria for innovation, leadership, and educational excellence, and demonstrate a clear vision of exemplary learning environments.

"Tiger Tech and our designation as an Apple Distinguished School are part of the university's overall cyber learning initiative, which began with the implementation of the iPad scholarship program in 2012," said JSU President Carolyn W. Meyers. "We're excited to be on the forefront of a transformative learning method that's preparing students to compete in the 21st century."

Tiger Tech will offer special promotions, such as in-store events and store giveaways. JSU says it will also have AACS-certified technicians who will be available to provide training on store products.

"The store is another example of the university's efforts to bring quality to students, employees, the community and the city," said Michael Thomas, JSU vice president for Business and Finance.
