Tips for a safe SuperBowl Party

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Many of you will probably be hosting Super Bowl parties Sunday, and many of those parties will have alcohol.

Jim Pollard, Public Information Officer for American Medical Response said, "Drunk driving crashes skyrocket after Super Bowl games, so paramedics at AMR are urging party hosts to prevent DUI."

"Super Bowl Sunday is one of the biggest days of the year for drinking beer and liquor.  Parties often start hours prior to kick-off and last beyond the end of the game.  Those facts are a recipe for disaster," Pollard added.

American Medical Response has provided some tips on how to have a safe Super Bowl party.

Here are a few tips to keep your guests safe.

  • Do not pressure guests to drink.
  • Do now allow drinking contests.
  • Never serve alcohol to anyone under 21.
  • When guests arrive determine who will serve as a designated driver.
  • Serve lots of food, including soft drinks, water, juice and "mocktails".
  • Stop serving alcohol at the end of the third quarter (the same as NFL stadiums) and begin serving coffee and dessert. But remember coffee DOESNOT restore sobriety.
  • Never let anyone drive who has drunk *any* alcohol
  • Make sure everyone buckles up before driving home.
