JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A 60-year-old Clinton woman has been sentenced to 23 months in federal prison followed by five years of supervised release for bank fraud and tax evasion. A restitution and forfeiture hearing in the case will be held March 25.

From March 2007 through March 2009, Barbara Cummings was employed as the office manager at Mid-South Machinery. During her employment, she forged the signatures of the owners of Mid-South Machinery on numerous checks drawn on the company's accounts.

She made checks payable to herself and her husband, and the money wound up in her personal bank account. Cummings also altered dollar amounts written on transaction tickets that were made payable to "petty cash".

Cummings was also charged with failing to pay taxes on the funds she embezzled.
