MDOT and MHP are monitoring the roadways in the metro Jackson area as wintry precipitation moves across central Mississippi.
It was a cold, steady rain Tuesday night. At the stack MDOT, law enforcement, a de-icer and a signal truck waited to address any roadway issues.
MDOT spokesman Michael Flood said the emergency operation center has been activated to just monitor the road conditions. No de-icing materials have been spread in the metro Jackson area.
There has been some de-icing in some northern counties.
MHP trooper Julius Hutson said the stack was being monitored closely because of the number of motorists traveling to and from the rodeo at the Mississippi Coliseum.
MDOT and MHP remained in constant communication throughout the night relaying information about the roads, highways and interstates in the event of icing.
