Melvin Gibson has a long criminal history

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

New developments about 39 year old Melvin Cortes Gibson who remains on the run, wanted for murder. Gibson's has a long criminal history; ten pages of charges, conviction and arrests that date back to 1995.

From aggravated assault and domestic violence to possession of cocaine and assault on a police officer; in black and white the charges reveal this man began his felony career when he was just 20 years old.

These records, given to me by the Hinds County Sheriff's Office, show 39 year old Gibson, sometimes uses the Deion Cornelius Gibson.

The Jackson man is wanted by Jackson Police. Detectives believe he is the man who shot 34 year old Jeremy Forrest and 24 year old Taft Weathersby in the head Monday night. It happened at a home on Elcrest Street.

While digging through Gibson's criminal history, we found out he was already a wanted man by JPD. He was arrested back in 2011 for his alleged connection to a double murder on Corinth Street.

However, he was only charged with, a convicted felon in possession of a firearm. After he was a no show in court, a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Gibson apparently has an anger problem. Prior to 2011 we found out a Hinds County judge ordered him to attend anger management classes after he was charged with aggravated assault with a weapon.

For now, Gibson remains on the run as Jackson Police try to link him to the two murders on Elcrest Street in Jackson. During the shooting, a third person was injured by gunfire. That victim is hospitalized and expected to recover.
