Plans moving forward for new downtown Jackson hotel

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Developers are moving ahead with plans to break ground this spring on a new Westin hotel in downtown Jackson. The Simpson Group is developing the $53 Million Dollar project.

They've been securing funding for the hotel over the last few months, which includes private money, bonds from the city county and state, and urban development grants.

The group hopes to close on the sale of the old Mississippi title building next month, and begin demolition to make way for a parking lot in April.

Joseph Simpson says, "We needed a place to put people up, a place they can be proud of and they can get the same type of experience they would expect if they were going to Manhattan."

Construction of the main building begins in May, with a completion date set for November of 2015.

The 205 room hotel will be the first 5 star hotel for our area.
