VAN ZANDT COUNTY, TX (KLTV) -
An investigation into an illegal landfill led Van Zandt County authorities to the discovery of a device believed to be a pipe bomb.
The Van Zandt County Sheriff's Office announced Thursday that Van Zandt County Precinct 1 Constable Mickey Henson was assisting the Van Zandt County Fire Marshal's Office with an investigation into an illegal landfill. On Thursday, Henson was at the landfill site on County Road 1701 when he stopped to investigate a suspicious vehicle.
Deputies were dispatched to assist Henson in the investigation. After requesting and receiving consent to search the vehicle, deputies discovered a large quantity of crystal-like substance, believed to be methamphetamine, in a hidden area inside the vehicle's truck.
Two males located inside the vehicle, identified as 44-year-old Timothy Steven Bolt of Mineola and 24-year-old William "Willie" Neal Adams, Jr. of Grand Saline, were placed under arrest. One of the suspects cooperated with deputies after being taken into custody and led them to a rural residence at 2715 CR 1701.
Deputies, along with Constable Henson and Deputy Wilson with the Fire Marshal's Office, entered the house with the homeowner's consent. They quickly discovered additional contraband, including a device believed to be a pipe bomb.
Authorities immediately evacuated the residence, secured the crime scene and evacuated a safe area around the home. Agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives responded to the report of a suspected pipe bomb at the residence. A bomb squad from Garland, Texas was then called in and deactivated the device.
It has yet to be determined if the device was, in fact, a pipe bomb.
