Update: Missing airplane found crashed

A private plane that left Jackson-Evers International Airport Friday night was found crashed Saturday after attempting to land in Birmingham.

According to the FAA, the Cessna 210 lost contact with air traffic controllers about 13 miles northeast of Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport.

Jefferson County Alabama officials said the plane was located around noon about 20 miles northeast of the airport.

The two people on board did not survive. Their names have not been released.

The aircraft went missing around 10:20 p.m. Friday night.

Officials said the small plane tried to land, but the tower asked them to circle due to inclement weather.
