Family remembers Florence couple killed in Alabama crash

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

We have learned that a Florence couple died after their plane left Jackson Evers International and crashed in Alabama.

Steven Miller said that his sister, Calli Miller Campbell, and his brother-in-law, Allan Campbell, were killed in the Cessna 210 that went down Friday night.

According to Allan Campbell's Facebook page, he was a pilot for Southern Seaplane Incorporated of Belle Chase, Louisiana. Calli Miller is a Clinton High School graduate.

The couple were parents to four children.

Miller said, "My sister was a wonderful person whose happiness revolved around others being happy. She was always the person that the family went to in a time of need regardless of the situation. She was very kind and loving."

"Allan as well was a great person. He would do anything for anybody," Miller added.

According to the FAA, the private plane that left Jackson en route to Birmingham lost contact with air traffic controllers about 13 miles northeast of Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport.

"We don't have any idea what caused the crash. It did hit a pine tree on the way down and clipped it and the fuselage is pretty much buried," said Jefferson County, AL Commissioner.

Officials said the small plane tried to land, but the tower asked them to circle due to bad weather. The Cessna was found about 20 miles northeast of the airport.

Jefferson County Alabama officials located the wreckage in a wooded area sometime after noon Saturday.
