JULIA'S FORECAST: Severe Weather Alert- Tomorrow!

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

As far as today's forecast goes, it's going to be relatively quiet. After some morning fog, we'll have a warm and humid day with highs in the mid 70s. Clouds will hang around with a sprinkle possible, especially north of I-20.

Warm air continues to stroll in, preventing our lows from getting too low tonight. Many will stay in the 60s. This will set us up for potential record heat! The record is 83 degrees, set in 1986. We're looking at highs close to that on Thursday.

With the heat and the moisture, we're in a good set up for rain and storms as a cold front approaches. Rain and storms approach in the mid to late afternoon and will be prevalent during the evening commute. The band will push eastward during the overnight.

As far as impacts go, the biggest concern is for gusty, damaging winds as storms roll through.  Heavy downpours are a good bet, and localized flash flooding could become an issue. We can't rule out the possibility for hail and tornadoes, although these will likely only occur in isolated instances.

With regards to location, all of Mississippi is under the slight risk for severe weather. Areas farther north in the state have the greater potential to see severe weather.

We'll keep you updated on-air and right here, so be sure to check back frequently for updates.
