Phenix City Interim Superintendent gives impromptu assessment on state of the school system

In an unexpected turn in last night's Phenix City school board meeting, Interim Superintendent Dr. Rodney Hinton went off the agenda, and gave an impromptu assessment on the state of the Phenix City school system.

Hinton became interim superintendent this past November when the board bought out the contract of former superintendent Dr. Larry Dichiara.

Near the end of the board meeting, Hinton was asked to give his assessment of the system after three months in office. He spent 30 minutes expressing his thoughts.

"We're a very good system but our goal is to be a great school system," said Hinton. "And there are a lot of things that had to be changed and we've worked real diligently to try and simplify some things so teachers have a better opportunity to plan and teach: How we're allocating our resources and how we're focusing our time-on-task in the classroom."

Dr. Hinton says morale is high and momentum is strong and he is confident things are getting on the right track.
