Families plea for arrest in unsolved teens murders

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A community comes together to plead for an arrest in the unsolved murders of two Jackson teenagers.

Sunday relatives and friends of 17-year-old Albert Barber Jr. and 16-year-old Jason Murphy joined hands in prayer near the location were the teens were fatally shot.

Their bodies were found last June in a ditch near Gun Street. Both were shot in the back.

Ward Three Councilwoman Larita Cooper Stokes organized the gathering.

The families say police have forgotten the case, but they still want justice.

"We just ask you to be with us to pray with us, to pray with these families, to pray with this community as they try to heal and as long as there's a murderer loose in these streets no one in Jackson is safe," said Cooper-Stokes.

The council representative plans to ask city leaders to give emergency consideration to changing the name of Gun and Hume Streets in honor of Barber and Murphy.
