The Mississippi Highway Patrol worked an accident on I-20 eastbound Saturday near Clinton.
According to MHP Trooper Julius Hutson, five people were ejected from a vehicle near mile marker 30 in Hinds County.
The crash occurred around 3:15 p.m.
We were told three people have been airlifted from the scene and they are in critical condition.
Hutson said eight people were traveling westbound in a black Mercury Mountaineer when it lost control, overturned, and crossed the median.
The SUV stopped in the eastbound lane of the interstate.
We were told bodies were scattered across the roadway.
Traffic was shut down on both the east and westbound lanes.
All of the injured were transported to University Medical Center.
We do not have the identities of those involved at this time.
Investigators are still trying to determine what caused the vehicle to lose control and crash.
We were told, as of 7 p.m., traffic had resumed.
