Summer Youth Employment Expo held in Jackson

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

The Mayor's Summer Youth Employment Expo kicked off at Monday morning at Metrocenter Mall. More than 60 employers were on hand, as well as the city of Jackson, looking for employees.

People ages 16-24 were welcome to fill out applications. Alone, the city of Jackson was looking to hire three hundred young adults.

"The mayor, as well as the city council, voted for us to get the funds to get more young people engaged and get the opportunities to work and start earning and putting that money back for savings as well as investing that in their education," said Greg Riley with the city of Jackson.

Riley says the city plans to hire about 100 more youth than last year.
