Goodwill wedding dress gala set for Saturday in Madison
NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -
Anxious brides began lining up Friday for Goodwill's annual wedding gala, a one-day sale Saturday where they can get designer dresses for practically nothing.
"Nearly all of the dresses are donated by area bridal boutiques, so they're brand new, never worn," said Goodwill spokeswoman Jamie Berry. "The dresses retail for as much as $6,000, and we price them anywhere between $49 and $399. So all of the dresses are under $400."
Veils, jewelry, belts and shoes will also be available.
Last year, bride Mirlena Haccard said she waited in line about 12 hours for the perfect gown.
"When I found these gowns, it was like, 'perfect, this completes the whole thing,' $156," she said.
About 1,500 designer dresses will be available, including some prom dresses, all in the one-day event raising thousands of dollars to further Goodwill's mission of putting folks back to work.
Those people include Catherine Clark, a former cosmetologist.
"Before working at Goodwill, I worked at several salons. And every salon I've worked in, I had to quit due to illness and pain," Clark said.
But after going through the career solutions center clerical training 15 years ago, she's working pain-free.
"I'm doing something I love, and also I'm able to feel good," said Clark, now an assistant senior director for Goodwill. "I just can't imagine my life without Goodwill."
The wedding gala is set for Saturday from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the Rivergate Goodwill Store on Gallatin Road in Madison.
