2 arrested trying to sell stolen guns

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Two men were jailed over the weekend for trying to sell stolen guns at a gun show.

Police say Devin Russell and Alvin Powell Junior were both arrested at the Capitol City Gun Show at the Wahabi Shriners building on I-55 south.

They are being charged with possession of stolen handguns.

Promoters of the gun show say their security noticed the men trying to sell high-end handguns at half price to their dealers. After checking the serial numbers on the guns, they discovered they were stolen, then called authorities.

The guns were both taken in car burglaries. One occurred in Utica, the other in Clinton.

"We wanna keep the stolen guns down, keep them in the hands they belong in, we don't need them in the hands of the bad guys," said Big Pop Gun Shows' David Chancellor.

All dealers at the big pop gun shows are required to do background checks on all weapons. That includes running serial numbers, and checking the ID's of those selling or trading weapons.
