Magee armed robbery suspects captured

MAGEE, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

On March 18 at around 4:23 am,  the Magee Police Department received a call stating that the Kangaroo gas station on Hwy 49 across the street from Trustmark Bank had been robbed by two white males with a shotgun.  

The caller said that the suspects had also stolen a vehicle from a customer.

We are told that the subjects fled from the scene in the two vehicles and shortly after officers spotted the vehicles near the Hwy 49 overpass heading North on US 49.  Magee Officers chased the suspects until one of the vehicles stopped at Hwy 49 and Zion Hill Road.

One suspect was taken into custody after a foot chase and was apprehended by Officer Shawn Patterson, Officer Vance Hamilton, and K-9 Officer Robbie Reid.  

Police say during that time, Mendenhall Police spotted the other stolen vehicle and began chasing the suspect. Shortly after, the suspect crashed the stolen vehicle at the intersection of Hwy 49 and Cambell Creek Road and fled into nearby woods.  

K-9 Officer Robbie Reid went to the scene and started tracking the suspect with K-9 Jade as Simpson County Sheriff Department and Mendenhall Police Department all surrounded and searched the area. We are told that shortly after, the suspect was captured.

Officials tell us that they recovered money and weapons used and stolen in the robbery.  

The suspects were identified as Cecil Bowers, 22, from Brooklyn, MS and Richard Hale, 19, from Brooklyn, MS.  One of the vehicles that the suspects were in was reported stolen from the University of Southern Mississippi's campus.  

The suspects are being charged with armed robbery, felony taking of a motor vehicle, felony fleeing, and possession of a stolen vehicle.  

We are told that there might be additional charges from USM (Dept of Public Safety) of armed robbery and Hattiesburg PD with carjacking and burglary.  

Chief Randy Crawford stated that he was so thankful that no one was injured during the crimes and also commended all of the officers and deputies for everyone's' fast response and enabling these dangerous individuals to be apprehended in a very short period of time.
