'Heaven is for Real' Director visits Jackson

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

The movie 'Heaven is for Real' is set for release in mid-April. It's about a four-year-old boy who talks about heaven after a near-death experience. But it's getting a preview showing this Sunday at the Malco Grandview Theater in Madison. And the Co-writer and Director, Randall Wallace, is in town for it.

Wallace, also the Screenwriter for 'Braveheart' and Director of 'Secretariat', happens to be good friends with Sweet Potato Queen Jill Conner Browne.

"I'm kilt boy in the parade. I wear my kilt from Braveheart," he tells us.

Wallace will provide 'security' at Saturday's Zippity Doo Dah Parade, as he has in years past. He says Browne is one of Mississippi's legendary writers, and he admires her dedication to giving back. Last year, Browne presented Batson Children's Hospital with a $100,000 check.

"She gives a tenth of every dollar that passes through her hands, and that inspires all of us to find good ways to give back," Wallace says. "And then this year the parade is about welcoming home Vietnam Veterans. I made a movie called 'We Were Soldiers', about the biggest battle ever in Vietnam of American forces, so it's a great thing for me in every way."

Wallace is a hard worker and a Christian. He hopes everyone, believers and non-believers, will find a few answers in 'Heaven is for Real'.

"What we see here is a reflection of the glory of heaven. It's an amazing story," he says.
