JPS teacher charged with statutory rape waives hearing
RANKIN COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) -
Willie Moorehead, the JPS teacher charged with statutory rape, waived his hearing on Tuesday. His bond was lowered to $75,000 and he can have no contact with any children under 18 years of age.
Moorehead was formally charged on March 18 with statutory rape of a 14 year old.
Investigators say the teen was allegedly picked up by Moorehead at her Jackson home on March 10 while the mother was sleeping. We are told that he took the teen to a public park in Rankin County where the alleged sexual encounter occurred.
The mother of the student said Moorehead met her daughter last year at Siwell and befriended her. She claims he enticed her daughter into a sexual relationship when she was 13 years old.
