EFFINGHAM CO., GA (WTOC) -

Mothers Against Drunk Driving Georgia awarded a local law enforcement deputy.

An Effingham County Sheriff's deputy was recognized for his police work in helping make the streets safer through drunk driving enforcement.

Deputy Mike Kendrick's received the Silver Shield Award from Mothers Against Drunk Driving Georgia for his work by making 53 DUI arrests in 2013.

"I am very proud of the success and combined effort put forth by our deputies to make the roads of Effingham County a safer place to travel," Sheriff Jimmy McDuffie said.  "The Effingham County Sheriff's Office is committed to addressing the issue of impaired driving in the most aggressive manner possible."

The awards were part of the Eleventh Annual Golden Shield Awards Program.
