Trial date moved for woman accused of fatally injuring infant

A 23-year-old Pascagoula woman accused of physically assaulting her 3-month-old daughter, resulting in critical injuries to the infant, will stand trial June 2.

Jackson County Circuit Court Judge Dale Harkey reset the trial date for Erica Folmer at the request of prosecutors. Folmer's trial had originally been set for April 28.

Folmer pleaded not guilty Jan. 17 to three counts of felony child abuse.

She was arrested in November after the 3-month-old child was brought to Singing River Hospital in critical condition with injuries which included multiple skull fractures.

At the time of Folmer's arrest, the state Department of Human Services took custody of the infant.

Felony child abuse can carry a jail sentence of up to life in prison.

Folmer is currently jailed on a $1 million bond.
