A Sharkey County man was killed Saturday after authorities say men entered his home and held his family at gunpoint until he arrived.
Sharkey County Coroner Angela Eason identified the victim as 39-year-old Eric Williams.
Neighbors tell our crew that Williams was ambushed outside his home on Southern Avenue at around 8 pm. Shots were fired and he died in his driveway.
Witnesses tell us that Williams tried to fight off the attackers.
Williams was found in the carport of his home with a possible gunshot wound to the right eye. He was pronounced dead around 10:30 p.m.
Investigators said four men entered the home and assaulted Williams' girlfriend. Three young children were inside at the time of the attack. They were not injured.
Williams' girlfriend tells us that the 4 suspects held her and the children at bay in the house. After Williams arrived to the scene they ended up escaping out of a back door to a nearby hospital.
William's girlfriend says that whoever killed him identified themselves as police when they came in the house.
She tells us that there were 3 people and a driver of a get-away car that commited Williams' murder.
Williams' body was transported to Jackson for an autopsy.
Neighbors tell us that Williams was a good person, willing to help anyone out. They tell our crew that this crime has them concerned for their own safety.
