Candidate for Alderman convicted, sentenced for trying to register felon to vote

MADISON COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Madison and Rankin Counties' District Attorney Michael Guest announced today that Cobby Williams was sentenced to 5 years in prison for his participation in knowingly registering a convicted felon to vote.

Williams was a former candidate for alderman in Canton.

According to Guest, Williams was allegedly going door-to-door in March 2013 registering people to vote and then turning in those registrations to the clerk's office.

Guest says Williams registered a woman who is a convicted felon and not eligible to vote.

According to the DA's office, Williams recently pleaded guilty to one count of voter fraud. He was also was placed on 5 years supervised probation.
