JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Governor Phil Bryant has signed into law an NRA-backed bill creating an annual tax-free weekend every September for individual sales of firearms, ammunition, archery equipment, and certain hunting supplies.

Senate Bill 2425 passed both the Senate and the House with strong, bipartisan support. The final vote in the Senate was 39 to 11. The final vote in the House was 102 to 16.

The inaugural tax holiday will take place September 5-7, 2014. Mississippi joins Louisiana in offering a tax holiday for sportsmen.

"Many Mississippians share my strong belief in the Second Amendment and love the outdoors," Gov. Bryant said. "This tax holiday will help ensure Mississippians continue to enjoy our state's great outdoor heritage for years to come. I thank the Mississippi Legislature for their hard work on this bill and for supporting Mississippi sportsmen and sportswomen."
