JULIA'S FORECAST: Hot, humid & windy with storms overnight

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

We're priming the atmosphere for rain and storms, but activity won't arrive until tonight! In the meantime, expect a lot of warmth and humidity with a building breeze. Highs today will top out in the mid 80s! Be sure to stay hydrated and dress appropriately for the hot weather. The air will be thick with moisture, and the winds gusty out of the south at 15-25 mph.

A shower or two isn't entirely out of the question during the afternoon and evening, but it's looking like a lot of today will be dry. After sunset tonight is when we can expect rain and storms to pick up, especially as we head towards the midnight hour.

The greatest impacts will likely occur in the Delta, where the highest gusting wind and threat for largest hail is. Tornadoes are possible, but not likely. Localized flooding may occur. Areas farther southeast, including the Jackson metro, also have the chance to see damaging wind and hail.

Activity clears out by mid to late Friday morning and temps come down into the mid 70s.
