Madison Mayor responds about PGA event moving to Jackson

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Madison's mayor has responded to today's news that a popular PGA event is moving from Madison to Jackson this coming November.

Mayor Mary Hawkins says:

Obviously, I am disappointed that the PGA golfers and fans will move from the renowned Annandale golf course. But it's all about the charity. If Century Club Charities believe that moving the Sanderson Farms Championship to the Jackson Country Club will result in more money being raised for the children at Batson Children's Hospital, then who am I to argue with that.

Earlier Thursday the Century Club Charities issued their own statement about their popular PGA event moving from Madison to Jackson this coming November:

Century Club Charities has approved the move from Annandale Golf Club to the Country Club of Jackson for the 2014 Sanderson Farms Championship – pending PGA TOUR Policy Board approval on Tuesday, April 29th.

Although we anticipate the board will approve the request, no official announcement can be made until then.

We are a group whose mission is to promote golf for the benefit of charity.

The decision to move the tournament to the Country Club of Jackson was rooted in our mission and our desire to raise more money than ever for Friends of Children's Hospital.

We are very thankful for the 20-‐year relationship that we have had with Annandale Golf Club, who has been a terrific partner. We are confident that the growth of this event will continue to have a major economic impact on the entire metro area.

We'll be following up on this story throughout the day and will bring you updates as they become available.
