JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -
Community leaders in Jackson are taking a stand against child
The month of April is recognized nationwide as Child Abuse Prevention Month. Throughout the month, the Hinds County Sheriff's Office is teaming up with various community organizations.
The groups hope to bring awareness
to crimes committed against children.
Statistics from the most recent Kidscount Report cite more than 57 hundred reports of child abuse in Mississippi in 2012.
"We deal with cases like that all the time," says Hinds County Sheriff's Department Victim Assistance Coordinator, Keanna Ward. "One good
thing about the Hinds County Sheriff's Department is we have what you call a Juvenile Unit. We have investigators who are designated especially for child
abuse victims, neglect or anything in that field."
