Grieving father remembers his son

RAYMOND, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Sunday will mark one week since 21-year-old Joshua Clinton Hardin lost his life.

Hardin's dad spoke to us Saturday and said while his heart still aches. He forgives the woman allegedly responsible for his son's death.

Smoke lingering in the air and roses tied to a wreath in the shape of a treble clef  are reminders of a bonfire Friday night to celebrate the life of Joshua Hardin, who went by Josh.

Mark Hardin, Josh's dad said his son was a free spirit with a love for rap music.

Hardin spoke to us wearing Josh's hat, in front of his son's truck, draped with a jacket Josh had with him the morning he was killed.

"That's a phone call you don't want to get. I wouldn't want nobody to get that call," Hardin said.

Josh and three others were coming from celebrating a birthday when they collided with an SUV at the intersection of TV Road and Highway 18.

Josh died at the scene.

One victim in the vehicle with Josh is recovering in the hospital and two others are okay.

Tiffini Martin, who is allegedly responsible for the accident is charged with aggravated DUI injury and DUI homicide death.
Martin has bonded out of the Hinds County Sheriff's Department.

Josh's dad said he forgives Martin and suffers more knowing what she'll likely face in the weeks to come.

"She's got loved ones. I don't want her in jail that ain't going to bring my son back," Hardin said.

Hardin said if the shoe were on the other foot he'd do things differently.

" I would reach out to her family personally myself. I'd have to you know I'd just feel like I should," Hardin added.

The memorial at (Josh's) crash site continues to grow.

Joshua's dad sat at the location earlier this week, not for attention, but because he said he found comfort at the site of his son's death.

"I'm still aching. That was the closest I could get to him," Hardin said.

Family and friends gathered Thursday for a memorial service for Josh.
His body has been cremated.

Josh's memorial service was held at Jackson First Assembly.

Instead of flowers, the family asked for donations to Mother's Against Drunk Driving.
