WLBT/WDBD -

Tuesday was election day for mayor of Jackson and it was a very close race.

Chokwe Antar Lumumba, the son of the late mayor, came in first place with 29 percent of the vote. City Councilman Tony Yarber was only ten votes behind Lumumba.

Since no one received a majority of the vote, Lumumba and Yarber will face each other in a runoff on April 22nd to decide who will lead the city of Jackson.

WLBT will host a live, one hour runoff debate on Thursday, April 17, at 8pm. It will also be streamed on our website.

Jewell Hillery interviewed both candidates on Wednesday morning to talk more about the upcoming runoff election.
