HARRISVILLE, MS (Mississippi News Now) -
A four-year-old girl has been injured in a pit bull attack. It happened on Garrett Road in Harrisville.
Simpson County Sheriff Kenneth Lewis says the girl was playing inside her grandfather's trailer when three pit bulls tore through the back door. The dogs grabbed the little girl and dragged her outside.
The girl has injuries to her face and body and is in critical condition at UMMC. The grandfather and his girl friend were both injured when they tried to intervene.
The man, identified as Donald Mullins, shot 2 of the pit bulls but a third escaped. Mullins and his girl friend, Rita Tompkins, were arrested and charged with child endangerment. They have since bonded out and are going to the hospital to get their wounds looked at.
Sheriff Lewis says Mullins had around 10 dogs on the property. He is signing them over to the Mississippi Animal Rescue League Thursday morning.
