JPD confiscates cash and drugs during traffic stop

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A man is behind bars after a large drug bust in Jackson and this isn't his first run-in with the law. This bust came as a result of narcotic officers following their hunch that the suspect had more stuff in his vehicle than the law allows.

They confiscated cash, drugs, and drug paraphernalia; just over 20-thousand bucks, 13 grams of cocaine, and officers also recovered a gun. Their four legged partner was able to sniff out these items found inside a car during a traffic stop on Bishop and Rockdale streets.

Thirty-six year old Walter Mayberry was arrested.

"If you look at the amount that's left, this guy probably had a pretty successful week at selling drugs," said Jackson Assistant Police Chief Lee Vance. "(He) probably was at the point when he was getting ready to resupply, with the amount of drugs that he had left and the amount of money that we recovered."

Mayberry is a convicted felon with a rap sheet. His new charges include possession of cocaine within 15-hundred feet of a church.

Vance also encouraged the public to keep the tips coming, so they can keep drugs off the streets.
