Child among 3 killed in Buckingham County crash

BUCKINGHAM, VA (WWBT) -

A family in Buckingham County is coping with the unthinkable loss of three loved-ones, after a car accident early Sunday morning. The youngest was just four years old.

Thomas Goode, 4, Corey Garrett, 40, and Anthony Foster, 44, were killed in the wreck off Route 15 in Buckingham County. Route 15, north of Route 620, re-opened shortly after 3 a.m. Sunday. The crash remains under investigation.

The victims' family says Foster is Goode's step grandfather. Foster and Garrett are also distant cousins, and good friends.

Skinned trees, tire marks, and pieces of a shattered car are all that's left at the crash site, after Virginia State Police say Garrett lost control of an Nissan Infiniti. Garrett ran off the left side of the road, careening into trees and smashing the car. Foster and Goode were passengers. None survived.

"It's hard. It's very hard," said Mary Trent, Goode's grand aunt.

Family members stopped by the scene of the crash Sunday afternoon. Trent says Thomas was playful boy, never without a smile. She says Thomas loved his step grandfather very much.

"Very bright. Very smart," said Trent of the young child. "He loved Andy. He loved him so much."

Investigators are still uncovering details of the wreck. Tire marks are left on the street near at least six damaged trees. One tree was completely uprooted.

State police say the driver, Garrett, was ejected from the car, and wasn't wearing a seatbelt. However, Foster was buckled in, and Goode was strapped in tightly in a child safety seat. However, it wasn't enough to save either of them from the impact.

"I wish Thomas could be with me now," said his mother     Shantell Booker.

Goode is one the only boy of four sisters.
