Drug suspects who attempted to run down a deputy make court appearance

RIDGELAND, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

The three suspects who tired to flee a Madison County Sheriff's Deputy in the Ridgeland Lowe's parking lot April 10 were in court Tuesday.

Paul Brock Maddox is charged with aggravated assault, possession of a controlled substance and felony fleeing. His bond is $155,000.

John Earl Hargrave is charged with possession of a controlled substance and aggravated assault. His bond is $30,000.

Jeremy Lee Davis is charged with aggravated assault. his bond if $5,000.

It started as an undercover operation that quickly escalated to a potentially deadly situation for several members of Madison County law enforcement.  

"It was a narcotics transaction that was taking place in the city of Ridgeland this afternoon," said Ridgeland Police Lt. John Neal. "When the officers made that transaction, one of the suspects that was driving the vehicle decided to flee from law enforcement as they were attempting to take him into custody."  

The suspect then hit some parked cars and almost struck several officers in the process.   

But the suspects kept driving, getting onto County Line Road and realizing quickly that they couldn't get away fast enough.  

Maddox and Hargrave were wounded but their injuries were not life-threatening. Both were treated and released from a local hospital.
