Transcript Pharmacy - Business Matters

FLOWOOD, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A Flowood pharmacy specializing in serving patients with long-term medical needs is celebrating a distinction. In fact, at Transcript Pharmacy on Lakeland Drive evidence of them celebrating their latest accreditation from URAC, is all over the office.

President Cliff Osbon said the accreditation provides further confirmation for his healthcare company which he started with Todd Barrett in 2003.

"Extra level of credentialing, if you will, certifying that you provide certain services at a certain level of care," Osbon said.

The URAC accreditation complements their ACHC, Accreditation Commission of Health Care, accreditation received four years ago. Now dually accredited, Osbon said this cements Transcript Pharmacy's status as a premiere specialty pharmacy in the country.

Dual accreditation gives Osbon another selling point to physicians and patients when it comes to handling medicines that are more difficult for neighborhood pharmacies to process.

"High-tech, high touch, high cost drugs," Osbon described. "Often very expensive, have a lot of stringent insurance requirements for coverage."

Osbon says their niche is providing for patients with long-term medicinal needs which costs thousands of dollars per month. 80-to-90 percent of their customers need medication for solid organ transplants, Hepatitis C, Crohn's Disease or Psoriasis, and they serve patients all over the country.

"A significant percentage of our patients reside in our state, but many more live outside the state (Mississippi)," Osbon said.

The accreditation is just the latest notice Osbon's company has received. Through the years Transcript Pharmacy has proven to be quite popular with Inc. Magazine. Transcript has been chosen numerous times for one of the business publication's annual lists.

"One of the fastest growing privately-owned, health care companies in the U.S.," Osbon said. "We're excited to be a Mississippi company that has done that five years in a row."

They made the list from 2008 through 2012. Transcript pharmacy employs 15 people and most of them work at the Flowood office.
