Regina Quinn endorses Chokwe Antar Lumumba for mayor

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Former mayoral candidate Regina Quinn has endorsed Chokwe Antar Lumumba for the job.

The two appeared outside City Hall Thursday morning. Quinn says she supports Lumumba's platform for women.

If he's elected mayor, Lumumba says he will have a diverse administration and he believes in equal pay for equal work.

Quinn also supports his stand on education. He wants the Jackson School Board elected rather than appointed, but he's aware it's a legislative decision.

"What we'll do is incorporate the people's decisions into the process," said Lumumba. "We like to have people's assemblies where people can offer their suggestions in terms of the type of leadership they like to see. We need to let them know when appointments are coming up."

Lumumba says he wants to investigate gunshot sensors and/or cameras that will immediately alert lawmen when a shot is fired.

Lumumba faces councilman Tony Yarber in the runoff on Tuesday.
