Officials are calling it one of the largest moonshine busts in Lowndes County history. Nearly 200 gallons of moonshine have been seized and a ten barrel still is now destroyed.
Agents with the Alabama Alcoholic Beverage Control Board say two men, Andrew Peak and Ronald Hardy, are under arrest following the investigation. Both men were taken to the Lowndes County Jail and have been charged with possession of moonshine and possession of an illegal still.
The raid, which took place near the Dallas County line, was done after a tip led agents to a wooded area near Peaks home. A surveillance operation was set up by Task Force, investigators discovered both men were carrying numerous plastic jugs into the shed near the home.
Agents were able to confiscated 183.5 gallons of illegal spirits, packaged in what appeared to be brand new one-gallon, clear plastic jugs. A total of 193.5 gallons of moonshine, estimated to be worth about $5,800 was also seized.
No other details are being released at this time as the investigation continues.
